Xie Fuchun Perfume Workshop
Xie Fuchun Perfume Workshop is located at No. 273 Dongguan Street. Established and opened to the public in 2010, it consists of two parts: the Xie Fuchun Perfume Powder Workshop and Fu Garden.
The Xie Fuchun Perfume Powder Shop was founded in the 10th year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty (1830) and has a long history of 186 years. Over a hundred years ago, when synthetic fragrances had not yet been introduced to China, Xie Fuchun created exquisite fragrance extraction techniques using seasonal ingredients such as osmanthus and rose as the main aromatic materials. Its Duck Egg Perfume Powder, Musk Hair Oil, and Fragrant Accessories (hailed as Eastern solid perfumes) were meticulously crafted using techniques such as “flower scent infusion, musk fixation, and layered scent absorption.” In 1915, at the Panama–Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, USA, Xie Fuchun’s perfume powder and fragrant accessories won gold awards.
With the goals of preservation, inheritance, and development, the Xie Fuchun Intangible Cultural Heritage Workshop was established. The workshop mainly showcases the historical origins, brand stories, and evolution of intangible heritage of Xie Fuchun, reviving classical beauty and cosmetic techniques, as well as traditional perfume and oil production scenes. The ruins of the Xie Fuchun Perfume Powder Shop, Fu Garden, have been fully restored, bringing back the characteristics of a Jiangnan-style garden. Based on the intangible cultural heritage of Xie Fuchun, national cosmetics culture, Yangzhou beauty culture, and the culture of "Dream of the Red Chamber," a special cultural performance titled “Thousand Autumns of Rouge” was created. This serves as a platform to promote the brand culture of Xie Fuchun.
In 2006, Xie Fuchun was recognized by the Ministry of Commerce as one of the first batch of “China Time-Honored Brands,” and is listed as one of the “300 Nationally Key Protected Brands.” Its production techniques for “perfume, powder, and oil” have been included in the Jiangsu Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage list. In 2013, the “Xie Fuchun” trademark was awarded the title of “Famous Trademark of Jiangsu Province.” In 2015, it was granted the title of “Jiangsu Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Productive Protection Demonstration Base” by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture. Adhering to a brand essence of natural ecology and embodying “oriental, natural, and human-centric” values, the enterprise has inherited and developed traditional cosmetic series such as rouge, powder, perfume, and fragrant hair oil, along with brand derivative products. By incorporating classical traditional elements, the classic product lines have been upgraded, and the Fu Chun Peptide series of skincare products has been successfully developed to meet diverse cosmetic needs.
