Yangzhou Science and Technology Museum

The Yangzhou Science and Technology Museum is located in Guangling New Town, on the south side of the Yangzhou Civic Center Plaza. With a main building area of over 30,000 square meters, it officially opened to the public on September 26, 2015. It was a key project for the 2,500th anniversary celebration of Yangzhou’s founding.

The museum has one basement level and five above-ground floors, and houses an IMAX theater; the Science Enlightenment Exhibition Hall, Life and Health Exhibition Hall, Earth Home Exhibition Hall; the Transportation and Information Exhibition Hall, Arts and Crafts Technology Exhibition Hall; the Energy and Materials Exhibition Hall, Wisdom World Exhibition Hall; the Astronomy and Aerospace Exhibition Hall; and the Safety Education Exhibition Hall. The museum is a science education venue full of modern charm and contemporary flair.

The Yangzhou Science and Technology Museum aims to stimulate visitors’ interest in science and inspire scientific thinking. Utilizing modern exhibition methods, it integrates visiting and experiencing, learning and entertainment, science and art. Through interactive and experiential activities, it allows visitors to appreciate the wonders of nature and feel the charm of science in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

The Science Enlightenment Exhibition Hall centers around the theme of “Soaring Scientific Dreams,” primarily serving children and young people. The “Smiling Parent-Child Garden” is designed for toddlers and encourages parents and children to participate in interactive games together; the “Joyful Water Play Bay” incorporates knowledge about the forms of water, gravity, buoyancy, and hydropower into exhibits, inspiring visitors through hands-on experiences; the “Brave Challenge Island” lets visitors experience the joy brought by technology through competitive activities.

The Life and Health Exhibition Hall, themed “Science Leads a Healthy Life,” uses technologies such as holographic projection and microscopic magnification to display human anatomy. It also features a non-invasive health testing area to help visitors develop health awareness and adopt scientific lifestyles.

The Earth Home Exhibition Hall is divided into three major sections: Rare Home, Life Home, and Protect Home. It showcases a total of 144 rare animal and plant specimens and fossil exhibits from regions including Eurasia, Australia, Africa, the Americas, and the polar areas, as well as about 200 species of aquatic life and birds native to the Yangzhou area. Here, visitors can not only learn the stories of animals but also experience the wonder and greatness of nature.

The Transportation and Information Exhibition Hall and the Arts and Crafts Technology Exhibition Hall, themed “Technology in Life,” demonstrate the impact of changes in transportation modes, the development of information technology, and the innovation of craft heritage on human life, revealing the scientific concept that “technology originates from life and serves life.”

The Energy and Materials Exhibition Hall reveals the close relationship between materials and human life, inspiring visitors to explore nature, protect the environment, and make scientific use of resources.

The Wisdom World Exhibition Hall, themed “Exploring the Sea of Science,” allows visitors not only to experience the achievements of classic scientific discoveries but also to feel the challenges and joys of scientific exploration.

The Astronomy and Aerospace Exhibition Hall simulates humanity’s exploration of the universe, lets visitors experience the latest aerospace technological achievements, understand the history of space exploration, and showcases the impact of technology on the material world and the exploration of the unknown. It aims to cultivate visitors' innovative awareness and abilities.

The Safety Education Exhibition Hall, themed “Life Safety and Production Safety,” is connected by the “S” Safety Street. It provides public learning and interactive experiences on safety topics such as earthquake safety, fire safety, traffic safety, home safety, enterprise safety, hazardous chemical safety, shipbuilding safety, and occupational health safety.

Based in its exhibition halls, the Yangzhou Science and Technology Museum has carried out a variety of colorful public science activities, including science experiment shows, technology-making workshops, knowledge competitions, eco-film screenings, expert science lectures, and the selection of the best volunteers. It promotes science outreach in communities and schools, links internal and external science education efforts, builds a youth science education service platform, leverages the radiating role of the science base, and popularizes scientific knowledge among citizens. Since its opening, the museum has gradually become an important place for Yangzhou residents to learn and relax, as well as a paradise for youths to receive safety education.
