The Zhang Family Residence is located at No. 24 Caiyi Street and was the residence of Zhang Anzhi, built during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period. Zhang Anzhi (1911–1990), also known by his courtesy name Rujin and the pen names Zhang Fan and An Zi, was a native of Yangzhou. He studied traditional Chinese painting under Xie Gongzhan and later earned the high regard of Xu Beihong. He held positions successively at the Nanjing Art Institute, the Art Department of Central University, the Guangxi Art Museum, and the China Academy of Art. In 1946, he was invited to the United Kingdom to pursue further studies and promote traditional Chinese painting. He returned to China in 1950 and served successively as a designer at the Government Offices Administration of the State Council, Deputy Director and Professor of the Art Department at Beijing Normal University, Visiting Professor at the City College of New York University, Associate Director of the China Painting Research journal, Council Member of the China Artists Association, Advisor to the China Calligraphers Association, Professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Member of the Cultural Committee of the 6th and 7th Central Committees of the China Democratic League, and Advisor to the Beijing Municipal Committee of the China Democratic League. He held dozens of solo art exhibitions both in China and abroad, with many of his works collected by museums and art galleries around the world. His publications include the “Zhang Anzhi Art Collection.” The residence consists of two courtyards: the front section serves as the entrance hall with three bays, while the rear section has three rooms and two side wings, spanning seven rafters in depth, with the overall structure largely well-preserved.
