Wang Family Residence in Goldfish Lane

The Wang Family Residence in Goldfish Lane is a Yangzhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Wang Family Residence

Located at No. 26 Goldfish Lane, this was the residence of the Wang family and was built in the late Qing Dynasty. The building has two east-west axes. The west axis includes four courtyards in sequence. The first courtyard is the entrance hall, which opens north to a three-bay large flower hall (living room). The living room is of a rolled shed architectural style. Behind the living room is a courtyard that connects to the main house. The main house is a traditional three-bay, two-wing residential building. Behind the main house lies a small courtyard, at the northern end of which is a three-bay study facing south. The study is designed in a gatehouse style, featuring a row of upward-opening windows on the southern side. The design is exquisite and elegant, easy to operate, and leaves no trace when closed—truly ingenious. The east axis is largely consistent with the west axis, connected via a side gate and arranged in parallel. This building is a typical example of the traditional Yangzhou-style residence with front rooms and a rear courtyard.
