The Feng Family Residence is a cultural relic protection unit of Yangzhou City.

The Feng Family Residence is located at No. 9, Lane 9, Wenchang Middle Road. It is an old house purchased and built by Feng Guangying during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. From its layout, scale, decoration, carvings, and furnishings, one can appreciate the classic charm of “Yangzhou’s ancient moonlight and the traditional elegance of a humble alley.” The main gate of the old Feng residence faces east, built in a horse-hoof shape with finely jointed and polished bricks, featuring smooth and glossy surfaces. The gate tower stands impressively. Upon entering the entrance hall and then the courtyard, you’ll see a brick-carved shrine of blessing facing you—though partially damaged, its classic charm remains. To the left of the shrine is a meticulously built horse-hoof style ceremonial gate. Inside, the main residence consists of three south-facing sections in a row. Behind the ceremonial gate, the middle section features a refined and spacious three-bay hall, fronted by a carved cypress wood canopy. Corridors flank the hall, with an ear gate on the eastern corridor leading to a north-facing fire lane. Opposite the hall stands a three-bay mirror hall, while the eastern section includes two rooms for firewood storage. Passing through the screen door behind the hall and a waist gate leads to a three-bay residence with two side wings. The eastern wing has an ear gate leading to the fire lane, and the side room is three bays wide. This is a classic, well-organized layout of a traditional Yangzhou vernacular dwelling: “five bays in front, seven in the back, three on each side.”
