Tangshan Ancient Karst Caves

Introduction: In Leigong Mountain, west of Tangshan Town, there is a massive karst cave system. The total explored area of the caves spans tens of thousands of square meters, and currently, Leigong Cave and Hulu Cave are open to visitors. On March 13, 1993, a relatively complete ancient human skull fossil was unearthed in Hulu Cave, attracting worldwide attention. Scientific identification determined that it belonged to the Nanjing Man, who lived approximately 300,000 years ago. This discovery pushed the timeline of human history in the Nanjing area back by more than 200,000 years and confirmed that the Yangtze River Basin is one of the birthplaces of the Chinese nation. Transportation: From Nanjing Railway Station in the city, take the Nan-Tang Line and get off at Tangshan East Station. The fare is 4 RMB per person, and the journey takes about 45 minutes. Along the way, you can also stop at Yangshan Stele Material Site and Ming Culture Village. By car: 1. Take the Ninghang Road, exit Zhongshan Gate—Xiaolingwei—Maqun—Qilin Town—Fentou—Tangshan. Along the route, you can visit the Yangshan Stele Material Site, Ming Culture Village, and Tangshan Ape Man Caves, with no bridge tolls. 2. From Shanghai to Nanjing, you can take the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, which is about 280 kilometers one way, with expressway tolls of around 130 RMB. The one-way trip takes approximately 3.5 hours. After exiting the expressway at the Tangshan exit (before reaching central Nanjing), follow the signs toward Tangshan—you will arrive in less than 10 minutes.
