This railway line stretches approximately 40 kilometers and was originally an industrial railway for a pyrite mine, used specifically for transporting pyrite ore. It isn’t actually a tourist attraction, and still sees one or two train runs per day. However, due to the overwhelming number of visitors coming to admire the tunnel, operations transporting minerals were being disrupted. In 2014, there were reports that the mining company intended to cut down the trees on both sides, but at the time, many netizens argued that such beauty should be preserved. The company later issued a statement confirming they would not proceed with tree removal. This year, Nanjing’s Love Tunnel has re-emerged, and local authorities are urging visitors to follow the rules for their own safety.
