Chongyang Festival is a traditional Chinese festival. Since ancient times, it has been customary for people to climb heights during Chongyang, hence it is also known as the “Mountain Climbing Festival.” This event combines the traditional custom of climbing on Chongyang with national fitness activities. By organizing outdoor fitness mountain climbing, it aims to foster a social atmosphere that values fitness among seniors, respects and honors the elderly, and promotes caring for and assisting the elderly. The event includes elite men’s and women’s groups, general public groups, family groups, and senior citizen groups. The elite group route spans 8 kilometers, starting from Luojiu Highway, passing through the wooden boardwalk of Jiuzhoutai, reaching the mountaintop, and ending at the Siku Quanshu Pavilion. The general public group, family group, and senior group routes cover 3 kilometers, beginning at Luojiu Highway and ending at the South Square of the Siku Quanshu Pavilion. While promoting national fitness, the 2018 National Chongyang Mountain Climbing Fitness Conference – Western Venue and Lanzhou Anning “China Sports Lottery Cup” Jiuzhoutai Mountain Climbing Event also actively advances environmental protection efforts. It aims to promote and disseminate the concepts of green, environmentally friendly, and sustainable development, and raise public awareness of environmental conservation. A variety of eco-friendly public welfare activities will be set up at the event site, such as parent-child environmental games to instill green awareness from an early age. Additionally, the organizing committee requires all participants to carry all personal waste generated during the mountain climbing activity to the finish line in order to receive a commemorative medal. The event venue, Jiuzhoutai Scenic Area, is the highest point on the northern mountain foothills of Lanzhou, standing at an elevation of 2,067 meters. Legend has it that Yu the Great, one of the Five Emperors, passed through Anning on his way to tame the Yellow River. He climbed to this platform, surveyed the river conditions, formulated flood control strategies, and divided the land into nine regions from here—hence the name Jiuzhoutai (Nine Regions Platform). Its majestic and beautiful landscape stands opposite Gaolan Mountain, forming a scene where two mountains embrace the long Yellow River, encircling the city of Lanzhou. Along Luojiu Highway, the scenery is picturesque, with lush greenery and vast, imposing mountains.
