Former Site Memorial Museum of the General Front Committee
The Former Site Memorial Museum of the General Front Committee is a national AA-level tourist attraction, a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province, and a national defense education base.
The Former Site Memorial Museum of the General Front Committee is a place where the second-generation core leader Comrade Deng Xiaoping once fought. As an important site for patriotic and revolutionary tradition education in the city, since its opening in 1998, it has played a significant role, receiving over 200,000 visitors cumulatively. It was especially active during the education campaign to maintain the vanguard nature of Communist Party members and the 60th anniversary commemorations of the victory in the War of Resistance, hosting as many as 60,000 visitors in a single year. Currently, the Former Site Memorial Museum of the General Front Committee in Danyang City has become a patriotic education base of Jiangsu Province and a national defense education base for all citizens of Jiangsu Province. To better leverage the museum’s role in promoting patriotism and revolutionary tradition education across society, the Former Site Memorial Museum of the General Front Committee has undergone comprehensive renovation and reconstruction.
The Former Site Memorial Museum of the General Front Committee is located at No. 5 Baota Lane, Neichenghe Road, Danyang City (formerly the Dai Family Garden).
It consists of two parts: the historical site and the memorial museum, covering an area of 1,344 square meters. The structure is a two-story building. The historical site is now arranged and displayed according to its original appearance at the time. The memorial museum is a three-story building housing the “The Glorious General Front Committee” exhibition, which uses modern methods such as images, texts, sound, light, and video to present the illustrious history of the General Front Committee in its entirety to visitors.
After the victory of the Yangtze River Crossing Campaign in April 1949, the General Front Committee, composed of five members including Chen Yi, Su Yu, and Tan Zhenlin, came to Danyang and successfully directed the Battle of Shanghai Liberation and the takeover work. From May 6 to 26 of that year, Deng and Chen stayed here to oversee overall operations. Danyang gathered six members and two alternate members of the 7th Central Committee, as well as over 30,000 elites from various sectors including party, government, and military. The former site of the General Front Committee’s stay in Danyang is now a provincial cultural relic protection unit and a provincial national defense education base for all citizens.
