Xiangwang Wax Museum

The Xiangwang Wax Museum is located near the former residence of Xiangwang on Xingfu South Road in the city center. Established in April 2002, it covers an area of 6,000 square meters and features five major exhibition halls. These halls depict eight historical stories from the Chu-Han Contention period, such as "Xiang Yu Raising an Army," "Angry Execution of Song Yi," "Burning the Boats and Smashing the Pots," "Victory in Pengcheng," "Apologizing at Hongmen," and "Besieged at Gaixia." Dozens of lifelike wax figures bring the scenes to life. The corridors on both sides are engraved with folk tales about the Overlord. The realistic wax figures transport visitors back over two thousand years to an era of warlords vying for power and the smoke of battle rising everywhere. Visitors are enthralled and reluctant to leave, awed by Xiang Yu's heroic spirit described as “mighty enough to lift a mountain and dominate the world,” and saddened by his defeat at the Wu River where he drew his sword and took his own life. They reflect on the tragic grandeur of the Western Chu Overlord—sublime and moving enough to move heaven and earth, and stir ghosts and spirits.
