September Lake

The name "September" holds a special connection to the life of General Peng Xuefeng. Peng Xuefeng was born in September 1907 in Zhenping County, Henan Province; he joined the Chinese Communist Party in September 1926; he married Lin Ying in September 1941; and he sacrificed his life in September 1944 in Xiayi County, Henan Province. Covering an area of 75 acres, the park's main attractions are arranged around the lake. A walk around the lake allows visitors to enjoy the beautiful scenery while gaining a comprehensive understanding of General Peng Xuefeng’s life and deeds, providing a profound patriotic education.

The Peng Xuefeng Memorial Hall is the centerpiece of the entire park, located at its highest point. The design integrates a monument with a museum, highlighting the fusion of tradition and modernity, as well as commemoration and sightseeing. Through various techniques such as symbolic forms and metaphorical expressions, it fully portrays General Peng Xuefeng’s image as both a scholar and a warrior, as well as the uplifting spirit of new Suqian. Ascending the steps from the square and looking up, the grandeur and majesty of the architectural complex are further emphasized.

The main façade of the Peng Xuefeng Memorial Hall faces the park’s central axis. It adopts the form of a traditional Chinese courtyard building, where indoor and outdoor spaces blend and interconnect, creating a rich sense of spatial layering. In the center of the courtyard stands a statue of General Peng Xuefeng, serving as the focal point of the entire structure. The memorial hall is 100 meters long in total, symbolizing the 100th anniversary of the general’s birth. The main building is divided into four sections: the Exhibition Hall, the General’s Hall, the Dawn Cinema, and the Lecture Hall, all arranged around the central atrium with a circular corridor. The exterior walls of the memorial hall mainly use white and red granite, symbolizing snow and maple leaves respectively. The design draws inspiration from the “snow” and “maple” in General Peng Xuefeng’s name, aiming to reflect the purity of snow and the vibrancy of maple.

The Memorial Tower is 70 meters tall, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the War of Resistance. The grand staircase is 37 meters wide, symbolizing the glorious life of General Peng Xuefeng. The outer walls of the memorial tower are constructed with white granite and transparent glass. The design concept of the tower is inspired by a sharp ceremonial sword personally designed by General Peng Xuefeng for the cavalry regiment, widely praised as the “Xuefeng Sword.” The towering memorial tower fully embodies the heroic spirit of the resistance forces led by General Peng Xuefeng—fearless in battle and unafraid of sacrifice. Inside the tower, there is an observation deck that offers a stunning view of the cityscape from the highest point.
