Ancient Tomb Cluster in Xinsheng Street

The Ancient Tomb Cluster in Xinsheng Street is a cultural tourism attraction.

Xinsheng Street is located east of Xingfu Road, south of Malingshan Road, and north of Hongze Lake Road. Built during the Wanli era of Emperor Shenzong of the Ming Dynasty, it has a history of over 400 years and is the only remaining and relatively well-preserved old street district in Suqian City.

To support the urban redevelopment of Xinsheng Street, starting from the end of March 2017, the Nanjing Museum in collaboration with the Suqian Museum carried out archaeological surveys, explorations, and excavations at the site. A total of 11 ancient tombs were cleared, including one brick-chambered tomb and the rest earthen pit tombs. Over 20 artifacts were unearthed, mainly consisting of pottery, porcelain, copper coins, and a small number of silver ornaments. The tombs date back to two historical periods: the Han Dynasty and the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties. Through this excavation, a preliminary understanding was gained of the cultural layers and distribution of tombs in the area, providing important reference material for further in-depth historical research and preservation efforts across the entire Xinsheng Street district.
