Former Residence of General Wang Zheng

The former residence of General Wang Zheng is a cultural tourism attraction, a classic red tourism site, and a patriotic education base.

The former residence of General Wang Zheng is located in Biantangqiaobangtou Village, Daixi, Luoyang Town, Wujin District. Originally purchased by General Wang Zheng’s grandfather, it faces south and consists of three courtyards of traditional Qing-style farmhouse architecture, each with three bays. The residence is set in a beautiful environment and is a typical example of a Jiangnan water town farmhouse.

In 1909, Wang Zheng was born into a farming and scholarly family in Tianjingqiao, Daixi, and as a child, he often helped with agricultural work. He spent over ten years of his childhood and adolescence in Tianjingqiao.

It has been learned that due to long-term neglect, the former residence showed signs of deterioration. Through coordinated efforts, renovation of the old house on its original site began at the end of 2007 and was fully completed in September 2008. The residence now has four sections in total: the first is the entrance hall, with six bays across two rooms, still featuring a row of doors under the southern eaves; the second is the kitchen, with five bays in one room; the third is the living room, also used as a sitting room, with seven bays across two rooms; the fourth is a two-story small building, with seven bays in one room.

The renovated residence retains the original features in its beam structures, fireproof walls, and the wooden row doors at the main entrance. Even the kitchen stove and water vat used by young Wang Zheng are original or have been preserved in their original state.

With deep respect for General Wang Zheng, the author walked into his former residence and visited the living room, bedroom, kitchen, and study. Although the furniture is old, it is neatly arranged. The old house, though aged, is well kept. Inside this old home, one can deeply sense the hardships of life and the admirable character of General Wang Zheng’s family at the time.
