Changzhou Youth Geoscience Science Popularization Museum

The Changzhou Youth Geoscience Science Popularization Museum is a science education base.

The Changzhou Youth Geoscience Science Popularization Museum in Jiangsu Province is located within Chengdong Primary School in Wujin District, and is the only geoscience education base in Jiangsu built inside an elementary school.

The base follows the philosophy of "popularizing geological science knowledge and cherishing Earth's resources and environment." Using unique stone exhibitions and geological science activities as mediums, it showcases the Earth’s layered structure, types of rocks, the history of life evolution, and more. A ground subsidence model vividly demonstrates the mechanisms behind geological disasters such as ground sinking caused by excessive groundwater extraction. The entire science base covers an area of 3,000 square meters. Major facilities include Marker No. 1 of the “Ground Subsidence Early Warning and Forecasting System Project in the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou Region,” implemented by the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government — the Mahang Bedrock Marker. This is a permanent ground subsidence monitoring facility connected to the Jiangsu Geological Survey Institute, and in 2009, it was linked with the BeiDou-1 satellite to enable real-time data collection and transmission. Other facilities include a science museum and supporting amenities, temporary exhibition halls, a science lecture hall, activity rooms, a library, laboratories, and resource rooms, all equipped with multimedia displays using audio, visual, and lighting technologies.

Over the years, the base has made full use of its high-quality science education resources, striving to integrate science education across all aspects of teaching. A variety of engaging activities have attracted large numbers of children, fostering their scientific thinking, spirit, and interest in science, while extending science education influence to families and communities. In 2006, the base also launched its own dedicated website.

The science museum has been successively named as the Changzhou Youth Science Education Base, Changzhou Youth Geoscience Science Popularization Museum, Jiangsu Provincial Earth Science Teaching Collaboration Pilot Unit, Changzhou Environmental Education Base, Changzhou Comprehensive Practice Activity Base, National Young Pioneers Research and Practice Base, and Changzhou Sunshine Station.
