Former Site of the Datong Wharf Company at Tiansheng Port, Tongzhou

The former site of the Datong Wharf Company at Tiansheng Port in Tongzhou is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

The former site of the Datong Wharf Company at Tiansheng Port in Tongzhou is located at Tiansheng Port in Nantong City.

In the 26th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1900), Zhang Jian established the Tongzhou Dasheng Steamship Company, purchased ships, and opened a shipping route between Nantong and Shanghai. In the 29th year of Guangxu, he built the Dadah Inland Steamship Company at Tangzha. In the 30th year of Guangxu, preparations began for the establishment of the Datong Wharf Company at Tiansheng Port, and the next year, the Dadah Wharf Company was also established at Shanghai's Shiliupu, along with the construction of two pontoon docks, "Tongyuan" and "Tongjing," at Tiansheng Port. Modern shipping flourished increasingly from then on. These two docks, together with the ancient Zesheng Street, form the historic port area of Tiansheng Port.

In April 1995, the former site of the Datong Wharf Company at Tiansheng Port in Tongzhou was announced as part of the fourth batch of cultural relic protection units of Jiangsu Province.
