Guangxiao Pagoda at Tianning Temple

Guangxiao Pagoda at Tianning Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Nantong Tianning Temple, a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit, was first built during the Tang Dynasty (exact founding date unknown). It is one of the oldest, largest, and best-preserved Buddhist temples in the urban area. It is also one of the three surviving Tang Dynasty temples in the Nantong Jianghai region (Guangjiao Temple on Langshan Mountain, Dinghui Temple in Rugao, and Tianning Temple in Nantong).

Guangxiao Pagoda is located in the northwest corner of Tianning Temple. It is the oldest among them, with a saying that goes, “The pagoda was here before the city; the city was built around the pagoda.” This pagoda was constructed in 864 AD. With its slender and exquisite structure, it is a scenic highlight on the northwest side of Haohe River.
