Originating from Japan, the office chair racing rally is about to launch in Taiwan. The “Tainan Office Chair Racing Rally,” jointly organized by Zhengxingbang in Tainan, the Hai’an Business District Development Association, and merchants from Dacai Market, will be held from 9 AM to 7 PM on April 24 along Section 2 of Hai’an Road (from Zhengxing Street to the intersection with Zhongzheng Road). The event includes a 30-meter individual speed race and a 2-hour endurance race, with nearby merchants also offering special discounts on the day of the event.

As the event date draws closer, participants are making bold declarations of their determination to win. One of the contestants, also a sponsor—The Landis Tainan—recently posted on its Facebook page under the title “Office Chair Gods” photos of General Manager Tang Bo-chuan practicing in various spots around the hotel. A former national swimming team athlete, he has been training rigorously every day aiming to achieve “perfect harmony between man and chair, and speed like the wind.” He’s vowed to win the championship, attracting numerous online viewers.

The Office Chair Racing Rally originated in Kirara Shopping District, Kyotanabe City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. It is a self-organized event by the district and has sparked widespread discussion since its inception. Shopping districts across Japan have scrambled to replicate it, making it a model for district-coordinated events. This year, Japan is bringing the event overseas for the first time, choosing Tainan as its first international destination.
