Huangnishan

Huangnishan, located in the southern suburbs of Nantong City, is one of the Five Mountains (Lion Mountain, Sword Mountain, Army Mountain, Huangnishan, and Ma’anshan) in the Nantong Langshan Scenic Area.

Introduction

On Donggang, the Lion Roost Pavilion has been built, making it a great spot to watch the sunrise and listen to the sound of the waves.

Longzhuya, situated at the westernmost part of Huangnishan, is mostly submerged in the river. Its jagged, dark brown, and rugged ridges resemble a dragon’s claws reaching into the river, hence the name. A wind-powered navigation beacon, the first of its kind in China, has also been built on the rock.

The Memorial Pagoda for Monk Jianzhen’s Perilous Eastward Voyage during the Tang Dynasty is located at Longzhuya on Huangnishan. The pagoda stands 7.6 meters tall, overlooking the Yangtze River. With the river flowing around the pagoda and crashing waves against the shore, the vast sky and river create an extraordinary atmosphere. This pagoda was completed on the 1310th anniversary of the eminent monk’s birth as a tribute.
