Guangxiao Lü Temple
Guangxiao Lü Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.
Introduction The "Famous Temple of Jianghuai," Guangxiao Lü Temple, was first built during the Yixi era of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Originally named Wanshou Temple, it was later renamed "Baoying Guangxiao Temple" by Emperor Gaozong of the Southern Song Dynasty, Zhao Gou, who ordered the temple to hold a Buddhist service to pray for the souls of Emperors Huizong and Qinzong. During the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed again as "Baoying Guangxiao Lü Temple." The temple is grand in scale and majestic in presence, and at its most prosperous, it accommodated over a thousand resident monks. In the 1930s, Guangxiao Lü Temple founded a Buddhist studies research society, and many well-known monks overseas have studied here. The temple possesses numerous valuable cultural relics, such as calligraphy by master artists from various dynasties, and the Song Dynasty rubbing of the "Ru Stele," known as a unique volume. It also holds the "Palm-Leaf Scriptures" that were brought from India during the Sui and Tang periods. The area surrounding the temple is a lively commercial district, close to Youth Road, dubbed the "Akihabara of Taizhou," where electronic shops abound, offering great convenience for shopping. Transportation: Reachable by buses 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 29, and 36.
