The Taizhou Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall was formed by merging the former Mei Lanfang Historical Materials Exhibition Hall and Mei Lanfang Park. In February 1985, then-President Li Xiannian inscribed the name of the hall. The Mei Lanfang Historical Materials Exhibition Hall was relocated from ancient buildings of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Its layout is uniquely arranged, blending solemnity, simplicity, tranquility, and elegance.

Transportation: The urban road network consists of main roads 35–60 meters wide, secondary roads 25–35 meters wide, and branch roads under 25 meters wide. The structural layout adopts a grid pattern, with main roads spaced 800–1500 meters apart and secondary roads 400–600 meters apart. The main urban area has 7 vertical and 7 horizontal main roads, and 14 vertical and 15 horizontal secondary roads. The port area features 5 vertical and 8 horizontal main roads, and 7 vertical and 7 horizontal secondary roads. Sixteen bus routes are planned to connect the train station, bus station, city center, residential areas, industrial zones, and nearby towns and villages.

In 1984, on the occasion of Mei Lanfang’s 90th birthday, Mei Lanfang Park was built. There are “four wonders” in the park that are particularly worth seeing. The Plum Pavilion is the first wonder, the second is a large half-length white marble statue of Mei Lanfang, the third is the artistic image of Yang Guifei from "The Legend of the White Snake" in the form of a large white marble sculpture located in the pool outside the exhibition hall, and the fourth is a huge stone tablet inscribed with the poem "Treading on the Grass" written by Mr. Zhao Puchu during his visit to Taizhou.

Mei Lanfang (1894.10.22–1961.8.8) was born on October 22, 1894, in Beijing, with ancestral roots in Taizhou, Jiangsu. He was a master of Chinese Peking Opera performance.

Mei Lanfang came from a family of opera performers. He began studying opera at age 8, learned the role of Qingyi (a type of female role) from Wu Lingxian at age 9, and made his stage debut at age 10. Later, he also studied Huadan (another type of female role) under Qin Zhifen and Hu Ergeng. From April 1915 to September 1916, he premiered 11 new plays including "The Tides of Officialdom," "Prison Lovers," and "Renunciation."
