Wanghai Tower, originally built in the Song Dynasty and reconstructed during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, commands the majestic spirit of the Jianghuai region and is hailed as the “Foremost Tower of Jianghuai.” The current Wanghai Tower follows the architectural style of the Song Dynasty, featuring a three-story exterior veranda. Its main color scheme is chestnut shell and bluish-gray, giving it an antique and elegant appearance. Compared to historical records, its overall form is more grand and magnificent, with smooth and graceful lines, and its design is refined and tasteful, maintaining a harmonious and consistent style with other ancient buildings in Taizhou.

To the west of the tower lies the Wenhuai Hall, historically recorded as initially built by Teng Zijing of the Northern Song Dynasty. It displays historical materials about five prime ministers—Yan Shu, Fan Zhongyan, Fu Bi, Han Qi, and Lü Yijian—who served in Taizhou during the Northern Song and were later promoted to the position of chancellor. In front of the hall stands the “Five Prime Ministers Tree.” A bronze statue of Fan Zhongyan, created by Wu Weishan, president of the China Academy of Sculpture, is also erected here. Coupled with the thousand-year-old state city ruins and the ancient Song Dynasty city canal within the scenic area, all these elements showcase Taizhou’s glorious history of “founded in the Southern Tang, flourishing culturally in the Northern Song, where a renowned city and distinguished officials shine together.”
