China Printing Exhibition Hall

The China Printing Exhibition Hall is a patriotic education base.

Shanghai is the birthplace of modern printing in China. The Commercial Press and Zhonghua Book Company, along with their printing facilities, have played a significant role and had a profound influence in the history of modern publishing and printing in China. During the various major struggles of the New Democratic period, more than 30 revolutionary martyrs, including Liu Hua, emerged from the Commercial Press and Zhonghua Book Company. To revitalize the national printing industry and promote China’s outstanding cultural heritage, Shanghai Zhonghua Printing Co., Ltd. and Commercial Press Shanghai Printing Co., Ltd. jointly established the China Printing Exhibition Hall.

The China Printing Exhibition Hall follows the timeline of the development of modern printing in Shanghai and centers on the theme “Printing Makes Culture More Brilliant and the World More Civilized.” Through thousands of precious historical photographs and artifacts, it provides a comprehensive introduction to the historical evolution, development, and contributions of major Chinese publishing and printing enterprises such as the Commercial Press, Zhonghua Book Company, and their printing facilities. These contributions include revitalizing the national printing industry, promoting Chinese culture, and advancing China’s publishing and printing sectors. The exhibition also includes information on the labor movement history and martyrs of the Commercial Press and Zhonghua Book Company, which forms part of Shanghai’s labor movement history and the history of the Communist Party of China in Shanghai.

The China Printing Exhibition Hall consists of a lobby, as well as exhibition halls dedicated to development history, corporate culture, technical quality, production equipment, printing knowledge, and modern products, covering a total exhibition area of 1,500 square meters. The hall offers a brief introduction to the technology, equipment, processes, and characteristics of plate-making, printing, and bookbinding, and also details the origin and development of ancient Chinese woodblock printing and movable type printing.
