Fashan Nunnery

Located at No. 338 Zhengben Road, Yangpu District, Fashan Nunnery was originally built during the Qing Dynasty. The nunnery once enshrined statues of Sakyamuni, Guanyin, and “Lord Liu.” It has long been renowned in Shanghai’s Yangpu Wujiaochang area, enjoying considerable incense offerings. During the ten years of turmoil, the nunnery was destroyed, but it was rebuilt on the original site in 1994 by the district government, following the architectural style of the original structure. Today, Fashan Nunnery covers an area of approximately 90 square meters, with its main gate facing north.

The plaque of Fashan Nunnery was inscribed by Master Zhenchan, former president of the Buddhist Association. The temple complex includes the Mahavira Hall, Sangharama Hall, Chanting Hall, Scripture Depository, Merit Hall, Vegetarian Dining Section, and nuns’ living quarters. There is also a mountain gate and dining hall along the street. The temple features traditional Chinese architecture with flying eaves and upturned roof corners.
