Ye Family Garden
The garden was built by Ye Yiquan (courtesy name Ziheng), son of Ye Chengzhong, a wealthy businessman from Zhenhai, Zhejiang. After the completion of the Jiangwan Racecourse in 1910 during the second year of the Xuantong reign of the Qing Dynasty, Ye used profits from the venture to fund the construction of this garden, primarily as a leisure spot for racegoers and gamblers. Designed by the Japanese, the garden features a unique layout. It is shaded by ancient trees, including many century-old specimens. The former owner of the estate was Ye Chengzhong, a renowned “King of Hardware” and “King of Kerosene” in Shanghai during the late 19th century.
