The China Martial Arts Museum is a science education base.

Chinese martial arts are imbued with the character and temperament of the Chinese nation, embodying its unique understanding of the art of combat. The purpose of building the China Martial Arts Museum is to explore, inherit, promote, and develop the treasure trove of Chinese martial arts culture; to gather classic works and showcase the essence of martial studies; to inspire national pride and educate Chinese students; to present research achievements and broaden international exchanges. The China Martial Arts Museum was first established in 2005, completed its second phase in 2007, and finished an upgrade project — the Science of Martial Arts exhibition hall — in 2009. It is located within the new comprehensive building of Shanghai University of Sport, covering a total area of over 2,500 square meters, and is the world’s first museum to comprehensively display the history and culture of martial arts.

The China Martial Arts Museum currently houses thousands of artifacts. From these, the museum has carefully selected the finest pieces, combining them with literature, photographic materials, and multimedia displays to present the profound richness of Chinese martial arts from multiple perspectives and levels. Stepping into the bronze ware exhibition area is like entering an excavated era from a thousand years ago. Visitors can fully immerse themselves in the ancient aura of bronze, and we are fortunate to still be able to appreciate the splendor forged by that bold character. Although the Qing Dynasty military spears are not far removed from us in time, they are rarely found in domestic museums today; the Tang Dynasty warrior figurines are even more precious. In addition, the museum also houses over a hundred ancient martial arts books, once regarded as secret training manuals in the martial world. These books contain a wealth of textual information, narrating the changes of the times, and have themselves become legends. Whether they are fragmented relics of history or comprehensive masterpieces, they are all the soul of the nation and treasures of China.

The China Martial Arts Museum's science education project, known as the "Science of Martial Arts" exhibition hall, is a science venue funding project by the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission in 2009. This exhibition hall has added many interactive experiences (such as Leaping on the Pole, Quick Eyes and Hands, Mysterious Weapons, Shifting the Universe, Masters Discuss Martial Arts, Pressure Point Techniques, etc.), using relatively novel and high-tech display methods (such as fighting dummies, dynamic rotoscoping, infrared sensors, contactless recognition, etc.) to showcase the profound depth of martial arts and allow visitors to understand the scientific principles of martial arts through participation.
