Tongji Middle School Academician Pavilion

The Tongji Middle School Academician Pavilion serves as a patriotic education base.

In the campus of Tongji Middle School stands a hexagonal pavilion featuring classic Chinese garden design, known as the “Academician Pavilion.” Built in 2004, this structure commemorates eight academicians who emerged from this century-old school:

Academician Shi-Zhang Bei, male, founder of China’s Cell Reconstruction Theory and a pioneer in biology.

Academician Zhong-Bi Wu, male, recipient of the Grand Cross and Star of the Grand Cross medals awarded by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, and a member of the German Academy of Natural Sciences.

Academician Shi-Shu Wu, male, a renowned theoretical physicist who established and developed the new theoretical system — the Green's Function Method; academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Academician Meng-Chao Wu, male, a leading expert in hepatobiliary surgery and a pioneer of this field in China; academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Academician Da? Zhong, male, a structural geologist, researcher at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Academician Ming-Jing Tu, male, a mechanical engineering expert in China and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Academician Qi-Zhen Ye, male, who made outstanding contributions to nuclear reactors and nuclear power engineering, becoming an academician of the Energy and Mining Engineering Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Academician Mi-Man Zhang, female, who earned a doctoral degree from Stockholm University in Sweden and is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; she is a renowned geological paleontologist in China.

The Academician Pavilion was established to further promote the spirit of patriotism and to learn from their outstanding contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through technological innovation and achievements.
