The historic building complex of University of Shanghai — Huai De Hall of University of Shanghai

Huai De Hall was the second donation made by the Tret family. It was built in 1921 and completed in 1923. The five-story building features walls made of plain red brick, stone-like window surrounds, and continuous flat arch windows. Originally constructed as a female dormitory.

Huai De Hall (Women's Hall):

During a major renovation in 1963, the spire was replaced with a flat roof, and subsequent renovations removed the porch. It is now the Fifth Dormitory of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology.

In 1923, Huai De Hall (Treat Hall), the first female dormitory after the University of Shanghai became coeducational, was completed. It was donated by Mr. M.C. Treat from California, USA, with a total construction cost of $50,200. It served as a dedicated area for female students' living and studying. Facilities included a reception room, dining hall, home economics study room, reading room, and offices for female faculty, while the upper floors housed dormitories and a gymnasium and bathrooms for female students and staff. The building has five stories, is 144 feet long, and 50 feet wide.
