Former Site of Mee Fung Yarn Factory

The former site of the Mee Fung Yarn Factory is a protected cultural heritage site of Shanghai.

The former site of the Mee Fung Yarn Factory is located at 400 Bo Yang Road. Built in 1934, it was originally established by British merchants. Designed by Pullen and constructed by the firm of Manson & Wood, the building was completed in 1934. The yarn warehouse features a timber pile foundation, a reinforced concrete flat-slab structure, exposed red brick walls, and a composition of horizontal and vertical lines. The senior staff residences are of brick-and-wood construction, featuring British country-style garden villas — one detached and two semi-detached.

In 1959, the government purchased the property and renamed it Shanghai Maohua Woolen Mill. In October 1966, it became the Shanghai No. 17 Woolen Mill, and reverted to being called Maohua Woolen Mill in the 1990s. Additionally, there is one detached and two semi-detached Western-style houses, which served as residences for the British manager, foremen, and senior staff.

On April 4, 2014, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government officially designated and announced the former site of the Mee Fung Yarn Factory as a protected cultural heritage site of Shanghai (Shanghai Government Document No. 29 [2014]).
