The Shanghai Municipal Health Research Institute is located at Lane 32, Zhongyuan Road and was completed in the second half of 1935. The building is constructed in a brick-and-stone style, featuring a hip-and-gable roof in the central section, with flush gable roofs on both sides, adorned with elaborate eave decorations. The eaves are supported by bracket sets (dougong), and the roof is covered with yellow glazed tiles. The walls are decorated with traditional Chinese architectural motifs, including still clearly visible longevity patterns. The health research institute was led by the medical and health research department, designed by the Dong Dayou Design Firm, and built by the Lugenji Construction Company. It now serves as staff residential quarters for Changhai Hospital.
