Heilongjiang Forest Botanical Garden

The Heilongjiang Forest Botanical Garden was established in 1958, officially opened to the public in 1988, and approved as the Harbin National Forest Park by the Ministry of Forestry in 1992. Located in the Dongli District of Harbin, the garden covers an area of 136 hectares. It is China's most representative botanical garden for cold-temperate plants of the Northeast and also the only national forest park located within a provincial capital city.

The garden houses 13 specialized plant gardens of various styles, including an arboretum, a medicinal plant garden, a spring garden, a topiary garden, a tulip garden, a rare and endangered plant garden, an autumn foliage and winter scenery garden, a flower garden, an orchard-viewing garden, a rose garden, and a poplar and willow garden. It is home to over 1,200 species of plants from the Northeast, North China, Northwest China, and some foreign regions. This is the essence of the botanical garden. The site also features a 12,000-square-meter lake, the 48-meter-tall Qingyun Tower, the lush-green Wanshou Mountain, and a 10,000-square-meter eco-leisure plaza equipped with a large musical fountain. Other charming and uniquely styled sculptural attractions such as the Nine-Dragon Wall, Dragon and Phoenix Four-Happiness Dolls, Unity Wall, Longevity Fortune Prosperity Happiness Bell, the Twelve Zodiac Animals, and viewing pavilions leave visitors enthralled.

It is hailed as a showcase and microcosm of the vegetation of the Greater Khingan Mountains, Lesser Khingan Mountains, and Changbai Mountains, offering a dense, majestic forest atmosphere, a fresh and elegant ecological environment, and uniquely beautiful garden landscapes.

The garden brings together over 114 families and more than 200 genera of the forest family, including pine, birch, willow, maple, spirea, honeysuckle, and ginseng. Shrubs, trees, flowering plants, herbs, vines, deciduous and evergreen varieties form a unified and harmonious forest symphony.

The Harbin Forest Botanical Garden is renowned for cultivating cold-temperate woody and herbaceous plants and is a major botanical garden in northern China.
