The Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences Horticulture Sub-Institute is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences Horticulture Sub-Institute was established in 1956. It is a comprehensive horticultural research institution with nearly 50 years of development history. It currently has 205 employees, including 115 scientific researchers, and includes four research departments—the Vegetable Research Institute, Fruit Tree Research Institute, Flower Research Institute, and Biotechnology Research Center—as well as the National Agricultural Science and Technology Park Management Center, Longyuan Seedling Co., Ltd., and the editorial office of Northern Horticulture.

Over the years, the Horticulture Sub-Institute has focused on the breeding of new varieties and the development of protected agriculture for fruit trees, vegetables, and flowers, with an emphasis on cold resistance, disease resistance, high quality, and high yield, forming a unique research system for cold-region horticulture. Through the unremitting efforts of several generations of scientific workers, a large number of “Longyuan” series melon, fruit, vegetable, and flower varieties have been cultivated. The institute has achieved over 160 scientific and technological accomplishments, more than 90 of which have won science and technology progress awards from national ministries, commissions, and provincial or municipal governments. These achievements have generated substantial economic benefits for Heilongjiang and even the entire nation, contributing to farmers’ prosperity and the journey toward a moderately prosperous life.

Over the years, the Horticulture Sub-Institute has undertaken more than 40 research projects annually commissioned by the state, province, city, and the academy, maintaining a high academic standing both domestically and internationally. In 1996, the Horticulture Sub-Institute was designated by the Ministry of Agriculture as the “Heilongjiang National Vegetable Improvement Sub-Center,” and in 2001, it was recognized by the Heilongjiang Provincial Government as the “Heilongjiang National Agricultural Science and Technology Park.”
