Most churches in Harbin are old European-style buildings with relatively limited space. With the development of Harbin and its church communities, workers from both the Heilongjiang Provincial and Harbin Municipal Christian Councils and Associations resolved to construct a modern church that would keep pace with Harbin’s progress. Once this decision was made, it received unanimous approval and support from churches and believers across the city. With divine guidance and under the leadership of the municipal councils, believers across Harbin broke free from regional boundaries and united their efforts to shoulder the responsibility of building the new sanctuary. Thanks to the collective support of the city’s faithful, the foundation of Hallelujah Church was laid on November 11, 1998, and the church was grandly dedicated on August 29, 2000. To commemorate and praise the grace and love of the Lord, it was named Hallelujah Church.

Since its dedication, Hallelujah Church has served as the office location for both the Heilongjiang Provincial and Harbin Municipal Christian Councils and Associations. Due to its grand architecture and distinctive features, the church has played an irreplaceable role in the city’s pastoral work and international friendly exchanges.

Hallelujah Church places great importance on and actively participates in various initiatives within Harbin’s church community. To date, the church has invested in the construction of several worship facilities, including Bethel Church and Songbei Church. The former was dedicated in 2005, while the latter is expected to be completed in 2016.

The church is built in the Gothic style. On the south side (facing Youfang Street), the main entrance staircase is flanked by wheelchair ramps, and the flower beds surrounding the ramps feature the inscription “God Loves the World” in bold characters. Above the church are two bell towers, each topped with a cross, and there is also a cross at the center of the church facade. Both the central part of the church and the bell towers are adorned with stained-glass windows. The words “Hallelujah Church” in six dazzling golden characters shine brightly above the church. The church compound has two entrances: one facing the 2,000-square-meter church plaza on the south side (Youfang Street), and another facing the bus terminus of Route 73 on the east side (Shengyong Street). The main hall has five doors and three floors (two above ground and one below). The rear building on the east side (Shengyong Street) houses the offices of the Heilongjiang Provincial and Harbin Municipal Christian Councils and Associations.

Hallelujah Church is a blessing from God. The brothers and sisters of Hallelujah Church uphold the cross of Jesus Christ, honor God as the head of the church, and, guided by the Holy Spirit and adhering to the principles of the Three-Self Patriotic Movement along with love for the nation and faith, march forward in the sacred mission of preaching the Gospel and saving souls.
