Harbin Art Palace Printmaking Museum

The Harbin Art Palace Printmaking Museum was established on January 15, 2006. It is a non-profit cultural institution in the field of art, organized and coordinated by the Municipal Party Committee Propaganda Department and the Municipal Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and funded and managed by Harbin Pharmaceutical Group No. 6 Factory.

The museum has engaged Professor Wu Changjiang, Vice Chairman of the China Artists Association and a renowned printmaker; Professor Guang Jun, Director of the Printmaking Art Committee of the China Artists Association and doctoral supervisor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts; as well as eminent printmakers and art educators Professor Song Yuanwen and Professor Tan Quanshu as academic advisors. It has also formed an academic committee chaired by Mr. Chao Mei, Honorary Chairman of the Heilongjiang Provincial Artists Association, Director of the Printmaking Academy, and a celebrated artist, along with a professional printmaking team composed of printmaking practitioners, archivists, docents, receptionists, and website maintenance personnel.

The museum currently houses six exhibition and display halls, two collection storage rooms, one printmaking studio, one printmaking computer production room, and one printmaking literature and archives room. The total exhibition area exceeds 4,500 square meters, with over 1,200 linear meters of display space. The well-equipped collection storage can accommodate more than 6,000 print works. The printmaking studio is outfitted with five specialized printmaking devices, including woodblock, copperplate, lithography, screen printing, and integrated woodblock-copperplate machines, providing an excellent creative environment for printmakers nationwide and serving as a production or internship base for university printmaking faculty, students, and researchers. The printmaking computer production room is outfitted with advanced equipment and offers professional VCD tutorials and texts for beginners to learn from. The printmaking literature and archives room is responsible for organizing and preserving information related to print artists and their collections, as well as print literature and publications. It utilizes specialized computer management software to continuously update and replenish the printmaking database.

In its first year since establishment, the museum has collected over 200 outstanding works by more than 60 local printmakers from the province, as well as over 360 representative works by more than 225 renowned printmakers from across the country, dating from the 1940s to the present. The collection features profound cultural significance and distinctive artistic characteristics, covering various printmaking techniques and types such as color woodblock, watermark, powderprint, silkprint, color transfer, black-and-white woodcut, wood engraving, as well as copperplate, lithography, screen printing, mixed media, paper prints, brick carving, and plastic relief printing.
