Harbin St. Anne Dental Museum

The St. Anne Dental Museum was jointly established by Harbin Marine Dental Industry Co., Ltd. and Harbin St. Anne Medical Research Institute. It is China’s first specialized public dental museum and the first privately funded, non-profit oral medicine museum.

The museum opened to the public free of charge on September 20, 2003, and is divided into three parts—Ancient, Modern, and Contemporary—as well as a physical exhibition area. It systematically showcases the development of dental treatment, education, and management from the Xia Dynasty in ancient China to the present day. The content is rich and detailed. The first phase of the exhibition covers an area of 150 square meters and displays nearly a thousand cultural relics and historical materials, including bone-bristled toothbrushes from the Song Dynasty, Qing Dynasty acupuncture boxes, toothpicks, ancient prescriptions for toothache, instrument cabinets from the Jewish Hospital in 1911, graduation certificates from the First Russian Emigrant Dental School, the commemorative album of the first graduating class of the First Dental School in the 16th Year of Emperor Kangxi, dental chairs, drills, instruments used by Jewish, Japanese, and Russian dentists, old photographs, and vintage scientific research documents.

The establishment of the museum fills a gap in China’s dental heritage, drawing attention from the global dental community. It helps people understand the evolution of dental medicine, preserves and explores dental history and culture, and promotes dental knowledge while raising public awareness about oral health.
