Soviet Red Army Martyrs Monument in Nangang

The Soviet Red Army Martyrs Monument is located at the entrance of the North Theatre on Museum Square in Nangang District, Harbin. Standing there is a bronze "Soviet Red Army Martyrs Monument," which was built by the Soviet Red Army Command in 1945 to commemorate the Soviet soldiers who fell in battle against Japanese invaders.

The Soviet Red Army Martyrs Monument stands approximately 18 meters tall and consists of five parts: the base, the pedestal, the main tower, the tower body, and the bronze statue. The bronze statue is 3.5 meters high and about 2 meters wide, composed of two figures—a Soviet Red Navy sailor and an infantry soldier. The front and back of the tower body are inlaid with a bronze four-panel red flag and a party emblem featuring a hammer, sickle, and wheat ears. The main tower is frustum-shaped, with the Soviet national emblem in bronze embedded on all four sides. Below it, a bronze Russian inscription reads: "Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in battle for the freedom and independence of the Soviet Republic." The thick upper part of the pedestal features a white marble plaque with a Chinese inscription that reads: "Eternal glory to the Soviet heroes who sacrificed their lives for China’s freedom and independence in the liberation of the Northeast."

On November 11, 1997, former Russian President Yeltsin visited Harbin and laid a wreath at the Soviet Red Army Martyrs Monument to honor the fallen Russian soldiers.

In November 2010, it was listed as one of Harbin’s fourth batch of Class I historical buildings.
