Night riding and shining bright have become an unwritten rite of passage for many during their college years—spending quality time with a loved one in the middle of the night, heading up the mountain to enjoy private moments and romantic night scenery, or gathering with a few close friends to stay up late, ride motorcycles, and take in the night views, laughing loudly and freely, embracing youth at its best. Below are seven must-visit night view spots in Taichung that offer sweeping views of the city lights where life unfolds.

1. Wanggaoliao
Wanggaoliao can be considered Taichung’s most classic night view spot. Located on the highest wild area of the Dadu Plateau, it is a large cliff. From the viewing platform, you can gaze out at the Taichung Harbor, the plains south of the Dajiaoxi River in Changhua, and the urban area of Taichung, offering a nearly unobstructed panoramic view. Sometimes small vendors gather here, and police patrols help ensure safety. It’s a popular spot for students to hike up together and also a go-to place for couples to shine bright.

The back hills of Chaoyang, also known as the hidden gem viewpoint next to the Jianhou Fude Temple on the Jiantoufeng Mountain Trail behind Wufengshan in Chaoyang University of Technology, Wufeng, is a secret spot beloved by Chaoyang Tech students. From the back hills, you can see many of Taichung’s famous landmarks, including the Lihpao Ferris Wheel, as well as the Nangang Industrial Area, Changhua, the Seventh Redevelopment Zone, and the train station. Especially after the rain, the views become even clearer.
