Tianlong Temple

Tianlong Temple was first built in 1993. Nestled among the central ranges of the Lesser Khingan Mountains, embraced by lush green peaks and bordered by the clear Tangwang River, the temple is filled with the sounds of birds and the fragrance of flowers, exuding vitality and spiritual energy. It enjoys the auspicious reputation of "mountains cradling one temple, one temple guarding a thousand peaks."

Located southeast of the Jinshantun District seat, on the north bank of the Dafeng River, Tianlong Temple covers an area of 11,000 square meters. In May 1992, Master Cifa, the abbot of Harbin's Joy Temple, came to Yichun to select a site for a new temple. Upon arriving in Jinshantun, he was immediately captivated by the verdant mountains and clear waters. Standing on the hillside south of the Dafeng River, the eminent monk gazed into the distance and carefully surveyed the surroundings before telling his disciples, "Look, the winding ridges of these two mountain ranges, lush and vibrant, resemble two giant dragons lying here. Their dragon heads are hidden in the water to the north and south, while their bodies encircle the heartland of Jinshan, just like two dragons playing with a pearl. This place has excellent feng shui—truly excellent feng shui. Building a temple here will be like a dragon gaining water or a tiger gaining wings, ensuring a land of outstanding people and divine energy." It is said that at noon on the day of the temple’s consecration ceremony, a bright, winding white cloud appeared in the sky above the temple, resembling a celestial dragon emerging and spiraling upward. Thus, the temple was named “Tianlong Temple” (Heavenly Dragon Temple).

The overall design, layout, and architectural structure of Tianlong Temple retain the style and characteristics of traditional Chinese temple architecture. Since its completion, the temple has hosted continuous Buddhist ceremonies and attracted a steady stream of worshippers and visitors. Especially on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, known as “Buddha’s Birthday,” the temple holds the “Bathing the Buddha Ceremony for the Birth of Sakyamuni,” drawing monks, lay practitioners, and visitors from all over, creating a lively and bustling atmosphere.

Currently, Tianlong Temple has been redesigned and expanded. Its solemn and grand Mahavira Hall features a single-layer hip-and-gable roof, with a spacious and bright interior. The Maitreya Hall has a hexagonal double-eave structure, standing 9 meters tall, and houses a four-faced Maitreya statue along with two thousand smaller Maitreya statues. The Scripture Depository is an 11-meter-high double-eave building. Newly added are the Bell and Drum Towers and auxiliary halls, which include the Thousand-Hand Guanyin Hall, Ksitigarbha Hall, Medicine Buddha Hall, Sangharama Hall, Patriarchs Hall, Guest Hall, Cloud Water Hall, Dining Hall, and Distribution Center. It is now the largest Maitreya practice site in the northeasternmost part of Heilongjiang Province.
