The Hongqi Ridge Naoli River National Nature Reserve was established as a provincial-level nature reserve in 1998 with approval from the People’s Government of Heilongjiang Province, and was upgraded to a national-level nature reserve in 2002 with approval from the State Council. It is located in the heart of the Sanjiang Plain, at the northwestern foot of the Wanda Mountain watershed, at the confluence of the Naoli River and the Qiliqin River. 46°47′07″–47°03′04″ north latitude, covering an area of 10,200 hectares. It is an important breeding and habitat site, as well as a stopover for migratory birds in Northeast Asia.

The reserve boasts rich biodiversity. Surveys have recorded 89 bird species from 21 families across 11 orders; 25 fish species from 8 families; and over 500 plant species of varying complexity, belonging to 56 families. Today, when you visit the wetland reserve, you’ll not only be lucky enough to see the red-crowned crane, a Class I nationally protected animal—gracefully strutting and dancing with outstretched feathers amid the blue sky, white clouds, clear waters, and green grass. You’ll also witness scenes of other rare waterfowl such as white-naped cranes, white storks, wild ducks, and river gulls nesting, foraging, and singing in chorus, creating a series of harmonious and colorful natural paintings.

The beauty of the wetland is tranquil and understated, vast and serene. It’s hard to truly appreciate its breathtaking charm without being there in person. The blue sky and white clouds paint its eternal backdrop, wildflowers and fragrant grasses bring it vibrant vitality, while lakes and streams endow it with flowing spirit... All these elements together form the life theme of this green oasis. With distinct seasons and ever-changing scenery, each season offers visitors a unique and beautiful experience.

In spring, the crystal-clear blue sky, leisurely drifting clouds, and meandering streams resemble a peaceful landscape painting; in summer, the wildflowers blooming vibrantly across the wilderness and the cheerful calls of waterfowl among the reeds showcase the exuberant vitality of nature; in autumn, the golden leaves and the gradually departing flocks of geese reflect the natural rhythm of seasonal change; in deep winter, the snow-blanketed tussocks and frost-covered weeping willows seem to whisper the secrets of winter.

In 2009, under the principle of balancing conservation and development, the Hongqi Ridge Farm formulated and improved the “Seven Points One Line” tourism development master plan to create an eternal natural asset of blue skies, green waters, lush mountains, and fertile land. A dock, restaurant, and picking garden were built by the Five-Star Lake within the reserve, while tourist pathways were opened in the wetland, complete with docks, viewing platforms, and parking lots.

Once completed, visitors can frolic amidst green trees and flower fields, or take a sightseeing boat or electric cart to admire the serene natural wetland scenery featuring peaceful gulls and egrets, playful waterfowl, and lush aquatic plants. Supporting facilities include a comprehensive service center integrated with dining, entertainment, conferences, and accommodation. Visitors can fully experience rural life in the picking garden and enjoy the poetic ambiance of “gathering for spring wine, harvesting vegetables from my garden.”
