Xiaonanshan Site

The Xiaonanshan Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Xiaonanshan Site is a Neolithic settlement located on the eastern slope of Xiaonanshan Mountain on the western bank of the Ussuri River at the southern end of Raohe County, Heilongjiang Province.

Excavations were conducted in 1971 and 1991. One tomb was found, a joint burial in a vertical earthen pit with the remains laid supine and limbs extended. Grave goods included more than 60 jade items such as disks, rings, beads, axes, spears, daggers, and hairpins, as well as stone and other artifacts. Stone tools were mostly made by percussion, including spears, arrowheads, scrapers, and points, along with a small number of polished stone axes and arrowheads. Pottery mainly consists of jars and bowls, most being plain, with a few featuring square-grid impressed patterns, incised lines, or punctate impressions. Judging from the characteristics of the jade artifacts, some features of the site resemble those of the Wokenhada Site in Yilan County and show certain cultural connections with the Hongshan Culture.

In 2019, the Xiaonanshan Site was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
