Ten-Thousand-Mu Seed Orchard

The Ten-Thousand-Mu Seed Orchard is located on the east side of Jiagedaqi National Forest Park. Established in 1973, it has collected over 50,000 superior trees, mainly consisting of Korean pine, Dahurian larch, and red-crowned spruce.

The Ten-Thousand-Mu Seed Orchard selects high-quality forest stands from natural forests, then chooses superior trees based on their phenotypic characteristics. Scions are collected from these superior trees and grafted in nurseries to cultivate clonal seedlings with superior traits. These seedlings are then planted within the seed orchard.

This orchard features a complete variety of species, a wide range of tree types, and extensive clonal distribution. To date, it remains the largest artificial clonal seed orchard in Asia. Additionally, a high-quality seed base has been established on this foundation, covering a total area of over 18,000 mu and producing a cumulative 4,000 kilograms of high-quality seeds. It is also one of the first national gene banks for Korean pine seeds. In 2009, the site was designated as a National Key Seed Base by the State Forestry Administration. After decades of careful cultivation, the seed orchard has entered its fruiting period and has become a stable, high-yield seed production base in the Greater Khingan Mountains forest region. It has achieved the goals of regionalized production of quality forest tree seeds, standardized seed quality, and diversified seed varieties. In 2008, the Ten-Thousand-Mu Seed Orchard scenic area was rated as a 3A-level tourist attraction by the provincial tourism bureau.
