Dobbukur Nature Reserve
Dobbukur Nature Reserve is a national-level nature reserve.
Heilongjiang Dobbukur National Nature Reserve is situated in the southern part of the Yilehuli Mountain Range, a major spur of the Greater Khingan Mountains, along the upper reaches of the Nenjiang River. Administratively, it is under the Daxing’anling Administrative Office, with a total protected area of 128,959 hectares. The geographical coordinates are 50°19′ to 50°43′ north latitude and 124°18′ to 125°04′ east longitude.
The reserve spans a total area of 128,959 hectares, including a core zone of 41,786 hectares, a buffer zone of 38,879 hectares, and an experimental zone of 48,294 hectares. It is classified as a natural ecosystem-type reserve, specifically a wetland ecosystem. The area preserves a complete and typical cold-temperate marsh wetland ecosystem and is an important component of the nationally significant Nenjiang Source Wetlands. The Dobbukur River and Guli River within the reserve are major tributaries of the Nenjiang River, serving as key catchment areas and water conservation zones. They also give rise to numerous smaller streams, all part of the Nenjiang River system, making the area one of the important headwaters of the Nenjiang.
The reserve features typical island-like forest ecosystems interspersed with wetland landscapes, forming a unique cold-temperate forest-swamp wetland type. It exhibits the typicality, rarity, primitiveness, and fragility characteristic of cold-temperate wetlands, holding a significant position among forest-swamp ecological types nationwide.
The reserve is home to 326 species of vertebrates across six classes, accounting for 56.60% of the total vertebrate species in Heilongjiang Province. These include 53 species of mammals, 231 species of birds, 6 species each of reptiles and amphibians, and 30 species of fish. There are 3 species of Class I nationally protected mammals, 6 species of Class II nationally protected mammals, 6 species of Class I nationally protected birds, and 33 species of Class II nationally protected birds, among other key protected species.
The reserve boasts a rich diversity of insects, with 146 common species from 57 families across 10 orders. It also has 416 species of vascular plants from 56 families, 8 of which are listed as nationally protected, as well as 43 species of macrofungi.
The reserve is a crucial node in the network of nature reserves that form the transitional zone from cold-temperate to temperate regions. It also serves as an important stopover and breeding site for migratory birds. It plays vital roles in water conservation, soil retention, flood control, regulation of river flow, and carbon sequestration, and is an important water source for the Nenjiang River. The establishment of the reserve holds great significance for maintaining regional ecological security, protecting wetland biodiversity, and preserving water conservation functions.
