Huaiyuan Building

Huaiyuan Building, completed in 1934 with a construction area of 1,483.69 square meters, is a two-story building made of blue bricks. It was the place where Puyi worshipped his ancestors. Puyi named it after a line from the Book of Rites: “Treat distant peoples with kindness, and they will come from all directions; cherish the feudal lords, and the world will respect you.” The first floor housed the offices of the Imperial Guards, the Imperial Household Review Bureau, the Close Attendants Office, and the Rites Office. The second floor, apart from the Ancestral Hall (Fengxian Hall) where Puyi worshipped his ancestors, also included the office of the Ministry of Personnel and the Qingyan Hall.
