Changchun Northeast Cultural Tourism Industrial Park

The Changchun Northeast Cultural Industrial Park covers a planned area of 1 square kilometer and is adjacent to the Changchun Northeast Urban Ecological Wetland Park, boasting a beautiful ecological environment and a prime location. The overall plan designates key landscape nodes such as the Changchun Wanshou Temple, Youguo Pagoda, and the permanent site of the China-Korea-Japan Buddhist Forum Center. It aims to build an exhibition area for Buddhist architecture in Northeast Asia, a cultural exchange area for Buddhism in Northeast Asia, a commercial exhibition and trading area for Buddhist goods in Northeast Asia, and a pilgrimage area for Buddhist devotees in Northeast Asia. It comprehensively interprets and showcases the regional culture of Northeast Asia, creating a golden bond for Buddhist culture in the region, and establishing it as a sacred land of Buddhist culture in Northeast Asia that is “serene and solemn, compassionate and life-benefiting, devoted to Buddha worship, and committed to the Three Jewels.”

[Highlights of the Scenic Area]

Wanshou Temple. The first temple ever built in Changchun, it was originally constructed in the second year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1797), making it 215 years old. The temple was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution and reduced to ruins. In 2007, the Jilin Provincial Religious Affairs Bureau approved the reconstruction of Changchun Wanshou Temple. The rebuilt temple covers an area of 51,700 square meters, with a length of 258.5 meters and a width of 200 meters, and has a construction area of 27,000 square meters. The central axis of the temple runs from north to south, parallel to Renmin Avenue, facing the Yitong River system, bringing blessings of “eternal peace and health” to the people of Changchun.

Youguo Pagoda. Located on the southeastern side of the temple, it is a highlight of the park. The pagoda stands 65 meters tall, covers an area of 7,850 square meters, and has a total construction area of 6,200 square meters. It is a seven-story hexagonal structure, housing 9,999 golden Buddha statues and one ebony Guanyin statue inside. Upon completion, the Youguo Pagoda will become the “city-defining pagoda” of Changchun.

Guanyin Pavilion. The Guanyin Pavilion project is located on the lake’s central island, with a total investment of 200 million yuan. It covers an area of about 4,000 square meters, has a construction area of about 7,000 square meters, and a total height of about 48 meters. Inside, it will house a bronze Guanyin statue.

Buddhist Academy. The planned area spans 29,000 square meters, with a total construction area of 30,000 square meters, located to the northwest of Wanshou Temple. The Buddhist Academy is divided into three courtyards along the east-west axis. The central courtyard features a three-story circular multifunctional hall and conference rooms, while the side courtyards are designated for teaching, learning, and office areas. Each section is relatively independent to avoid interference.

Cultural Exchange Center. The design is themed around the golden bond relationship among the Buddhist cultures of China, Korea, and Japan, which runs throughout the entire building. In addition to hosting the China-Korea-Japan Golden Bond Buddhist Forum, the center also serves functions such as a global Buddhist cultural system, world Buddhist product exhibitions, a Buddhist museum, an antiquities museum, an international exhibition hall, an international Zen tea house, and an international incense ceremony hall.

The industrial park promotes truth, goodness, and beauty with the universal compassion of the Buddha, advocates peace and compassion, interprets the 2,600-year accumulation of Buddhist culture, explores a 7,000-kilometer journey of cultural dissemination, enlightens the wisdom of all beings, and fosters international cultural exchange. With the completion of the Changchun Northeast Cultural Tourism Industrial Park (Changchun Northeast Asia “Golden Bond” Cultural Park), it will become a renowned Buddhist sacred site in Northeast Asia and add another new city landmark to Changchun.
