Jilin Provincial Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine

The new building of the Jilin Provincial Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine was completed in September 2013. Located in the Jingyue Development Zone of Changchun City, Jilin Province, it has a total construction area of 7,250 square meters and an exhibition area of 3,860 square meters. It is a museum of traditional Chinese medicine that perfectly combines medical culture with modern technology, integrating exhibitions, scientific research, public education, and cultural exchange.

The Jilin Provincial Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine is currently recognized as a provincial-level science education base by the Jilin Provincial Department of Science and Technology, named as a fourth batch science education base by the Jilin Provincial Association for Science and Technology, and designated as a national science education base by the China Association for Science and Technology. It is also a member of the Chinese Museums Association. Serving as a distinctive, well-structured, richly endowed, and educationally focused platform for the university, it has become a culturally unique and professionally prominent venue and external brand. The museum plays an active role in providing specialized teaching for students, popularizing knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine among the public, and promoting China’s traditional culture.

Architectural Layout

On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of Changchun University of Chinese Medicine, the Jilin Provincial Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine was officially established on September 16, 2013, at the university. The museum covers a construction area of 7,250 square meters and an exhibition area of 3,860 square meters, consisting of one main building with six exhibition halls: the University History Hall, the Northern Herbs Exhibition Hall, the Animal Medicine Exhibition Hall, the Human Specimen Exhibition Hall, the Exhibition Hall of Famous and High-Quality Traditional Chinese Medicine Enterprises in Jilin Province, the General History of Traditional Chinese Medicine Exhibition Hall, and the Local Medical Characteristics Exhibition Hall. It is the first comprehensive museum of traditional Chinese medicine in Jilin Province. The museum houses hundreds of commonly used northern herbs, rare medicinal animal specimens, and uniquely shaped ginseng varieties, using various displays to help visitors understand the origins and development of traditional Chinese medicine.

University History Hall

The University History Hall was established in celebration of the university’s 55th anniversary. With a total construction area of about 400 square meters, it consists of a foyer, a historical evolution section, a thematic exhibition area, a section showcasing distinguished faculty, and a wax figure display of Ren Jixue.

Northern Herbs Exhibition Hall

This hall mainly showcases the beautiful scenery of Changbai Mountain, the geographical features of Jilin Province, hundreds of commonly used northern herbs, the results of the fourth national survey of traditional Chinese medicine resources in Jilin Province, and the research achievements in traditional Chinese medicine by Changchun University of Chinese Medicine.

Honors

The Jilin Provincial Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine was formed by integrating the former Medical History Museum of the Basic Medical College and the Specimen Room of the Pharmacy College of Changchun University of Chinese Medicine. It is one of the leading comprehensive museums of traditional Chinese medicine among domestic colleges and universities of traditional Chinese medicine. Officially opened on September 16, 2013, it has been recognized as a provincial-level science education base by the Jilin Provincial Department of Science and Technology, named a science education base by the Jilin Provincial Association for Science and Technology, and also serves as a teaching and practice base for university students at Changchun University of Chinese Medicine.

The museum currently houses 3,397 pieces of cultural relics related to traditional Chinese medicine and over 10,000 medicinal herb specimens. It receives more than 10,000 visitors annually and has become an important platform for the public to learn about and understand traditional Chinese medicine culture.
