The former residence of Comrade Chen Yun is located within the compound of the Linjiang Forestry Bureau in downtown Linjiang City, covering an area of 133 square meters. Inside, a large number of precious photos and historical materials introduce Comrade Chen Yun’s work experience in Linjiang and the detailed course of the Four Defenses of Linjiang Campaign. It also displays some of his work and daily life items. Here, visitors can further appreciate the fearless spirit and extraordinary revolutionary boldness of this great leader as he strategized, turned the tide, and made bold strategic decisions. In 1986, Comrade Xiao Jingguang inscribed the plaque “Former Residence of Comrade Chen Yun.”

After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Party Central Committee sent Comrade Chen Yun, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, to work in the Northeast on September 16, 1945. On June 16, 1946, the CPC Central Committee approved the decision of the Northeast Bureau to appoint Comrade Chen Yun as a member and Deputy Secretary of the CPC Northeast Bureau, and as the Deputy Political Commissar of the Northeast Democratic Allied Army. On October 31 of the same year, the CPC Northeast Bureau decided to establish the Liaodong (Southern Manchuria) Sub-bureau of the CPC, with Chen Yun serving as the head of the sub-bureau and Political Commissar of the Liaodong Military District. He set out from Harbin on October 27, passing through Mudanjiang, Tumen, and Korea, and arrived in Linjiang on November 27 after many twists and turns. On December 14, Comrade Chen Yun presided over the “Qidaojiang Military Conference” in Qidaojiang, formulating the strategic policy for persisting in the struggle in Southern Manchuria.

During his stay here, Comrade Chen Yun commanded the famous “Four Defenses of Linjiang” Campaign. At that time, the Southern Manchuria Base Area only included four counties—Linjiang, Fusong, Changbai, and Mengjiang (now Jingyu)—and the situation was extremely critical. The party, government, military agencies, factories, and hospitals of Liaoning and Andong provinces were all relocated to Linjiang. On December 17, the Kuomintang concentrated six divisions of troops in an attempt to attack the liberated area of Linjiang. By April 3, 1947, the Northeast Democratic Allied Army had repelled four Kuomintang offensives against Linjiang, shattered the enemy’s “first south then north” battle plan, reversed the war situation in the Northeast, forced the enemy to switch from strategic offense to defense, and put the Northeast Democratic Allied Army entirely on the offensive.

Comrade Chen Yun also led the land reform movement in Liaodong, making outstanding contributions to the construction of the Liaodong party, government, and military, the recovery and development of the national economy, and the liberation of the entire Northeast. With the victorious progress of the Northeast Liberation War, Comrade Chen Yun left Linjiang in June 1947.
