Located in Laosanzhang Village, Huashan Town, Linjiang City. Dating back to 1908 (the 34th year of the Guangxu reign). On February 26, 1999, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Jilin Province. The stele is titled “Record of the Pacification of Laoling,” erected after the completion of the Fengtian–Changbai Highway, which was commissioned by Xu Shichang, Viceroy of the Three Eastern Provinces. There are two stone stelae in total: one inscribed with text composed by Xu Shichang, standing 2.45 meters tall, 0.64 meters wide, and 0.20 meters thick, comprising a base, body, and top section, with an inscription of 603 characters; the other stele was co-authored by Zhang Fengtai, Prefect of Changbai, and Li Tingyu, Magistrate of Linjiang, containing 787 characters. The reverse side of the second stele lists the official titles and names of supervisory personnel. Together, the two stelae document the arduous process of road construction at the time, describing how people braved wind, rain, dew, and frost, cutting through mountains and building bridges to transform the overgrown and desolate “Laoyeling” (Old Ridge Ridge) into a vital route controlling the frontier.
