On October 18, 2006, the grand opening ceremony of the Liaoyuan City Museum was held on Longshou Mountain. This was an important initiative to promote outstanding historical culture and build a harmonious Liaoyuan, as well as a significant event in the cultural life of the people of Liaoyuan. As an important platform for preserving and developing a city’s culture and history, the museum serves as both a record and showcase of a city’s development, as well as a repository and promotion of its cultural heritage. It functions not only as a window into the city but also as a symbol of aspirations for the future. More importantly, it is an effective medium through which people can inherit historical civilization and receive education in patriotism, socialism, and collectivism. The museum holds great practical significance and far-reaching historical value in promoting outstanding traditional culture, cultivating sentiments, fostering national confidence and pride, and strengthening the resolve to accelerate development.

The Liaoyuan City Museum houses over 300 historical relics, including nearly 100 artifacts classified as national third-grade or above. These mainly date back to various historical periods such as the Neolithic Age, the Bronze Age, the Han Dynasty, the Goguryeo Kingdom, the Liao and Jin Dynasties, and the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Visitors can explore the historical civilization of Liaoyuan and the wisdom and creativity of its ancestors in the newly built museum.

History: In 1998, the Liaoyuan Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Press and Publication established the Preparatory Office of the Liaoyuan City Museum. The construction project was approved in 2001, and construction began in 2002. The main structure was completed in June 2004, and decoration work started in May 2006. The museum officially opened to the public on October 18, 2006. It officially became free and open to the public on February 1, 2009.
