The best time to view sea of clouds is from October to March each year. Besides the well-known Alishan and Hehuanshan,ETtoday EBC News Cloud has also compiled a list of 10 top spots for cloud viewing. Vast cascades of clouds drift around the mountains, subtly shifting with the passage of time—each moment offers a breathtaking scene.

1. Hsinchu – Mountain Retreat
Nestled in the Eagle-crested Mountain of Wufeng Township, Hsinchu, the Mountain Retreat may be remote and hard to reach, but once you arrive, you’ll find it absolutely worth it. From the retreat, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of rolling high mountains and lush green scenery, complemented by endless sea of clouds flowing through the valleys. The views are stunning from sunrise to nightfall.

2. Miaoli – Ginger Garden
Located in Lulin Village, Dahu Township, Miaoli, the Ginger Garden is famed for producing high-quality ginger. It features homestays, restaurants, and shops. Though situated only 500–800 meters above sea level, it offers sweeping views of the valley. The sea of clouds here is often spectacular, taking your breath away. It’s also a hidden gem for watching sunrises and sunsets.

3. Miaoli – Moya n Mountain
Moya n Mountain, located at the border between Gongguan and Touwu townships in Miaoli, has an elevation of just 157 meters, yet offers beautiful sunrises and sea of clouds. It’s a popular spot among photography enthusiasts. The summit is easily accessible via a walking trail, and the 360-degree panoramic views showcase the mountains and plains of Miaoli in their entirety.

4. Miaoli – Yun Dong Mountain Villa
You don’t need to trek up a high mountain to enjoy stunning sea of clouds. Located atop the highest peak in Sanyi, Miaoli, Yun Dong Mountain Villa boasts 360-degree wide views. Often shrouded in mist, the moving clouds create a dreamlike illusion of floating in the sky. The surreal landscape is utterly captivating.

5. Miaoli – Jiali Mountain
Known as the “Fuji of Taiwan,” Jiali Mountain in Nanzhuang Township, Miaoli, stands at 2,220 meters, making it the highest peak in the county. The round-trip hike takes about six hours, but that doesn’t deter enthusiastic hikers from reaching the summit. Once at the top, you’ll be greeted by layered mountain ranges and a dreamy seas of clouds, resembling an ink painting. From here, you can also see distant peaks like those of the Snow Mountain Sacred Ridge, making the effort truly worthwhile.

6. Taichung – Ruoyin Farm
Located on the Daxueshan Mountain, Ruoyin Farm is a must-visit spot for photography enthusiasts. The panoramic mountain views are stunning, offering a vista that spans over 270 degrees from Nantou and Changhua to Taichung Harbor and Sanyi. Sit in the open-air dining area and watch the clouds and mist creep up from the foothills all the way to your feet — it's a dreamy scene straight out of a fairy tale.

7. Nantou – Golden Dragon Mountain
Golden Dragon Mountain in Yuchi, Nantou, is an exceptional spot for cloud sea and sunrise viewing. Due to its relatively lower elevation, it also offers the chance to capture dreamy sapphire-colored cloud seas, a truly mesmerizing sight. At sunrise, the mountain area shimmers with mist, shifting through captivating hues as time passes — sometimes fine mountain haze filters golden light, other times the sea of clouds churns around peaks and ridges. The ever-changing scenery even leaves professional photographers in awe.

8. Nantou – Tiger Roar Villa
A campsite that combines cloud sea, sunset, night view, paragliding, and camping — a must-see when visiting Puli. Tiger Roar Villa offers a 180-degree wide view overlooking the entire Puli town. From the morning cloud sea and paragliders soaring freely in the sky, to the ever-changing sunsets and sweeping views of the million-star night panorama, everything is within sight.

9. Nantou – Wuxiu Farm
In the high-altitude Lugu Mountain area, aside from its unique mixed forest landscape, it’s also a great place for cloud sea viewing. The sapphire cloud sea at Wuxiu Farm is absolutely breathtaking, considered one of the most picturesque scenes on photographers’ favorite lists.

10. Nantou – Daxue Mountain Sightseeing Tea Plantation
The tea plantation scenery, enveloped in mist, presents a simple yet beautiful image of Taiwan. As the sun sets, the cloud sea is painted in warm, gentle hues, bringing a sense of infinite peace. The most well-known “Daxue Mountain Cloud-Watching Pavilion” is located at the highest point of the sightseeing tea garden. In the evening, as the sun slowly sets and is met with glowing red clouds, you’ll find yourself instantly still within this beautiful landscape.
