Wanliutang Park

Wanliutang Park is a cultural tourism attraction.

Wanliutang is located in the southeastern part of Shenyang City, covering a total area of 310,000 square meters. It earned its name due to the great variety and abundance of willow trees. During the Qing Dynasty, Wanliutang was hailed as "Willow Pond for Summer Retreat" and was listed as one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Shengjing. In 1953, the Shenyang Municipal Government dredged the South Canal and used the excavated silt to create an artificial hill here, forming the initial outline of Wanliutang Park. In 1984, another renovation of the South Canal expanded the water area of Wanliutang, and gates, fences, as well as ten scenic spots around the willow pond were established, officially naming it Wanliutang Park.

During the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty, poet Zhang Xianghe once composed the beautiful verse “Dense shade lines the path all the way to the city” to praise the serene and delightful scenery of Wanliutang.

Between 1998 and 1999, the Shenhe District Government carried out a comprehensive planning and renovation of Wanliutang Park. A large cultural square, musical fountain, modern sculptures, children's playground, Kids’ Fun City, as well as lawns, flower gardens, orchards, plum blossom gardens, and maple forests were added, further enhancing the park’s natural ambiance. It has become a naturally scenic garden with cultural charm, integrating leisure, entertainment, and sightseeing.
