Three Mountains

The Three Mountains, also known as the Three Maidens Peak, are located in Fanjia Township, Suizhong County. The three peaks stand side by side, towering into the clouds. The main peak rises to an elevation of 710 meters, and the mountain range is majestic, resembling a penholder.

The Three Mountains are also referred to as Dongqi Mountain and Sanzhou Mountain. They are famous mountains in western Liaoning, situated within Fanjia Township, Suizhong County, at the eastern terminus of the Yanshan Mountain Range. This area is one of the concentrated zones of natural and cultural landscapes, integrating mountains, water, springs, caves, and temples. The main peak stands 710 meters above sea level, with a silvery-white Liumi Pagoda built atop it. According to “Records of the Grand Historian: The Fengshan Sacrifices,” during the reigns of Qi Wei, Qi Xuan, and Yan Zhao, envoys were sent to sea in search of the “Penglai,” “Fangzhang,” and “Yingzhou” — the three divine mountains believed to be the mirage-like reflections of these peaks in the Bohai Sea. Throughout history, the Three Mountains have attracted countless emperors and generals. Monarchs such as King Zhao of Yan, Emperor Taizong of Tang, and Emperor Qianlong all visited here, leaving behind many timeless legends. Historically, the Three Mountains have also been a site for religious activities. The traditional temple fair held on the 18th day of the fourth lunar month draws large crowds of worshippers and visitors. Tiaoshi Gully is located to the west of the Three Mountains scenic area. Stretching for hundreds of li, it is the first grand canyon beyond the Shanhai Pass. The valley is filled with peculiar peaks, strange rocks, unique caves, spectacular scenery, elegant pines, and ancient trees.
